2. MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
To use Internet Phone 3.5, you will need:
• Processor: 80Mhz or higher PowerPC601 CPU or 120Mhz or higher PowerPC603 CPU or PowerPC604 CPU
• Memory: 16MB RAM
• System: MacOS 7.6.1 or higher, MacOS 8 fully supported
• Peripherals: Apple PlainTalk microphone or compatible, headphones are recommended
• TCP/IP: OpenTransport 1.1.2 or higher
• Internet Connection: FreePPP2.5v3 or OpenTransport/PPP or ISDN modem or Direct Internet connection
• Internet Connection Speed: 28.8 or higher
• Multimedia Extensions: QuickTime 2.5 or higher
Internet Phone is compatible with both Virtual Memory and RAM Doubler
Please take a few moments and make sure your system is set up correctly
3. TROUBLESHOOTING
3.1 Connecting to the Internet
• When using dial-up Internet connections, make sure you open your PPP connection before running Internet Phone 3.5.
• If you are using OpenTransport, you need to set it to be loaded at all times:
1. Open the TCP/IP control panel.
2. Select Advanced in the User Mode menu item under the Edit menu.
3. Click on the Options button in the lower-right side of the TCP/IP control panel; Make sure the Load only when needed check box is NOT checked.
3.2 Setting Up the Audio
Do the following to make sure your microphone is set up correctly:
1. Select Audio Source… from the Options menu.
2. Select the Microphone option and check the Playthrough box.
3. Speak into the microphone. If it is connected properly, you should hear yourself speaking through your speaker.
4. Now make sure the Playthrough box is NOT checked. If you leave it checked, you will not be able to use Internet Phone.
Click OK to confirm an exit the Audio Source dialog box.
* Note for users using system 8.1 or higher:
To make sure your microphone is set up correctly do the following:
1. Select Audio Source… from the Options menu.
2. Follow the instructions in the displayed dialog box.
3.3 Calling a Regular Phone Using the Dialer
1. In the Internet Phone window, choose Dialer from the Phone menu or click the Dialer button. The Dialer window appears.
2. In the Dialer window, select the Internet Telephony Service Provider from the list (unless you use the default service).
3. Enter the country code, area code and phone number by either manually typing them on your keyboard or clicking numbers on the dial pad with the mouse (e.g., for the US 1 212 5551234). No need to use the international access code. You can easily dial numbers containing letters. When entering numbers manually, you can enter the number with or without hyphens.
4. Press the Call button (or your keyboard Return key) to place your call.
The call is routed through the selected Internet Telephony Service.
